ULENDO APPOINTED AS GSA FOR ZAMBEZI AIRLINES NEW FLIGHTS TO LILONGWE AND DAR ES SALAAM
As part of its long term vision to connect all the SADC countries, Zambezi Airlines will on 10th March,2010 launch twice weekly flights between Lusaka and Lilongwe with onward services to Dar es Salaam, Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Don Macdonald has announced.
Mr. Macdonald said that the flights which will be operated in code-share partnership with Air Malawi, will be on Wednesday and Friday. The flights are being launched a time when the tourist season is about to re-open and will make it easier for tourists to combine a holiday at the popular Lake Malawi and a visit to Zambia’s world famous Victoria Falls or one of the game parks. Code share agreements with Malawi’s national carrier, Air Malawi, will mean that passengers from Malawi will have the added advantage of enjoying direct flights between Lilongwe and Dar es Salaam on board Zambezi Airlines 737-500 aircraft from 10 March 2010.
He added that the direct flights between Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania would also greatly facilitate trade between the SADC and COMESA member states. Mr. Macdonald also explained that the new flights would make it convenient for Zambian and Malawian nationals who have long standing fraternal ties to exchange regular visits. The flights will be operated by Zambezi Airlines’s modern Boeing 737-500 series aircraft which are configured for 12 Premier Business Class and 99 Economy Class seating. “The new flights should be viewed in the overall context of our commitment as Zambezi Airlines to ease travel for business people and tourists, within the SADC region,” the CEO stressed.
The flights will be launched just a day after the airline inaugurates thrice weekly flights between Lusaka and Nairobi, to be operated in conjunction with Kenya Airways. The Nairobi flights will enable Zambezi Airlines to issue tickets for travel to the rest of the world where the Kenyan flag carrier and its Skyteam alliance partners operate to. Ulendo Travel Group based in Lilongwe have been appointed as General Sales Agents for Zambezi Airlines in Malawi and their Managing Director, Mr Rob McConaghy, has said the new services will be enormously beneficial to the Malawi market meeting increased demand from traders using Dar es Salaam as a key port for imports to the country. Opportunities exist for improved tourism links with East Africa’s popular tourist destinations of Zanzibar and the northern safari circuits. He added that the new services to Tanzania will also offer seamless connections with Qatar Airlines services from Tanzania to the Middle East while Zambezi’s network will offer onward connections via Lusaka to Harare, Nairobi and Johannesburg.
