Ten days of cooking in Copenhagen – 20 to 29 August 2010

In April 2010, NOMA was named “World’s Best Restaurant”, and at the beginning of June 2010, Danish Chef Rasmus Kofoed won gold at the Bocuse d’Or, the European Championships of cooking. Both NOMA and Rasmus Kofoed use Nordic cuisine as their focal points and highlight the gastronomic potential of Nordic cooking.

To celebrate this culinary success, Copenhagen plays host to a ten-day Copenhagen Cooking event starting on 20th August 2010. One of the city’s most diverse and multi-ethnic areas will be turned in to a huge street kitchen where international chefs will produce culinary specialities from places such as Spain, Thailand and Japan. There will also be a number of tastings, contests, markets, wine fairs and gourmet meals at discount prices.

New Nordic Cuisine is exploding in popularity. From 20 to 29 August, you can taste, smell and even try your own hand at the art when the sixth Copenhagen Cooking festival takes place. There will be gastronomic specialities all over town – so dig in!

Gourmet restaurants will be offering special low prices, new taste nuances will be created by young chefs doing “show cooking” and there will be food markets all over Copenhagen. Those are just some of the attractions of the Copenhagen Cooking food festival. And whether you like flashy food, traditional dishes or want to taste a little of everything there will be loads of things to try. Since 2005, Copenhagen Cooking has celebrated Nordic Cuisine in particular with a festival which has your taste buds working overtime.

For the ten days of the festival, a wealth of temptations will be on offer around the city. One of them is “Taste the World” – a large street kitchen on the street of Nørrebrogade, another is “eat10” the food fair for bon vivants and there will be countless other events all over. Children can learn how to make “smørrebrød” – Danish open sandwiches – on a course run by Aamanns or take a Crayfish Party boat trip from Nyhavn to Malmö – with a basket of crayfish included! And this year there will once again be gourmet food available at special low prices, with restaurants such as noma and Kokkeriet as well as new surprises on the programme.

New Nordic Cuisine has received many accolades both at home and abroad over the past few years. Most recently, noma was awarded the title of “World’s Best Restaurant”.

Copenhagen Cooking is being arranged by Wonderful Copenhagen and a selection of the city’s best gastronomy players, with support from the European Regional Development Fund.
