Loon continues its commitment to a great guest experience with an investment of more than $1.8 million to further enhance its ability to deliver the best snow conditions and superior service for 2010-2011.
Loon’s newest and most-exhilarating adventure debuted this summer: a new zipline delivers high-flying thrills as guests soar above the Pemigewasset River! Beginning at Loon’s Adventure Center, guests experience a thrilling adrenaline rush as they fly across the River and back again. The zipline will be open during the summer and fall months and on peak weekends and holidays throughout the winter.
$1.2 million will be spent to augment and upgrade Loon’s already powerful snowmaking system covering 97% of terrain. 428 additional highly-efficient Low-E HKD tower guns will allow the resort to maximize snow output at a wider range of temperatures. This will result in more terrain opening earlier, as well as giving the Resort a better ability to replenish snow and resurface terrain even more quickly when weather conditions are not ideal.
A new Prinoth “Beast” grooming machine, with 40% more grooming surface and pushing power than a standard machine, will provide state-of-the-art snow surfaces at Loon this winter. The Beast, the first machine of its size in New Hampshire, and one of only two in New England, replaces two older machines and allow for more terrain to be groomed better and more efficiently. In addition to providing superior snow surfaces, this will also help the Resort to reduce its fuel consumption.
Skiers and riders will get more carving, bump and tree-skiing time on North Peak this winter, with a nearly 50% expansion of uphill capacity with additional chairs on the North Peak Express Quad.
Skiers and riders will have even more terrain to choose from with over twenty new acres of tree skiing added on North Peak. Trail construction also continues on two new South Peak trails and projected opening for this terrain is the 2011-12 season.
Lastly, a new loading carpet at the 7 Brothers Triple Chair will make it easier for guests to load the chair, resulting in a faster ride time and more time on the hill.
